We're
often asked why we should spend time and money looking after cats when
there are so many needy people out there, particularly in these
difficult economic times. Our answer is simple - by caring for cats (which we want to do as we are all cat lovers) we also help people. Take for example the person who finds an un-neutered tom cat living in his greenhouse. To a non cat-lover, this is a nuisance, and by removing the cat we are not only helping the cat, but we are removing the nuisance and thus helping the people concerned.
Read on to find some other examples of situations where we've helped people by caring for cats.

"We're not really cat lovers, so you can imagine our dismay when one spring morning we found 5 newborn kittens in our garden. We soon realised that the mother was feral (wild) and we set about asking rescue organisations to help. "We hadn't realised how difficult it would be to find anyone willing to take the cat and kittens, but eventually we asked Haworth Cat Rescue who were able to lend us a trap. Once we'd caught the cat they came to collect them, despite being situated nearly 20 miles away.
"We learnt that four of the five kittens were female, so we dread to think how many stray cats there would be now in our neighbourhood if we hadn't approached Haworth Cat Rescue" Mr & Mrs D, Huddersfield |

"My son, Craig has learning difficulties and suffers from epilepsy and panic attacks. He started volunteering with Haworth Cat Rescue in 2007, and now spends most weekends at their Centre. "He now suffers fewer panic attacks and his confidence and vocabulary have also increased. He chats about the cats and kittens all the time!" Peter Vallow, Brighouse "I enjoy playing with the kittens, and cuddling Vivian who is blind. I am very patient and I spend hours with the kittens, helping the nervous and feral ones to become used to being handled." Craig Vallow |

"After suffering a long term illness I needed to begin to rebuild my confidence and skills. "I asked Haworth Cat Rescue if I could come and volunteer to stroke the cats as I felt that this would be a non-threatening activity- I soon discovered the people there were equally welcoming. "Very early on I realised that I would be of better use by using my computer skills, and now I assist once a week with their database. "I can work from their Centre, or if I'm not feeling too well, I can work from home. "One of the perks of the job is that when I'm volunteering at the centre, the office has lots of cats to cuddle if I need a break" Nikki |

We received a Christmas card a few months after we rehomed an elderly cat to an old lady.
"Minerva has settled in well with my mum. They love each other; it has made so much difference to mum's life, she has a focus - Minerva - and Minerva loves her. Two elderly ladies together." |
